The information collection was previously published in the Federal Register on July 9, 1998 at 63 FR 37142, allowing for a 60-day comment period. No comments were received by the Immigration and Naturalization Service. The purpose of this notice is to allow an additional 30 days for public comments. Comments are encouraged and will be accepted until November 16, 1998. This process is conducted in accordance with 5 CFR Part 1320.10. Written comments and/or suggestions regarding the item(s) contained in this notice, especially regarding the estimated public burden and associated response time, should be directed to the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs, Attention: OMB Desk Officer for the Immigration and Naturalization Service, Office of Management and Budget, Room 10235, Washington, DC 20530 (202-395-7316). Overview of this Information Collection: (1) Type of Information Collection: Extension of a currently approved collection. (2) Title of the Form/Collection: Reengineered Foreign Students Pilot Program. (4) Affected public who will be asked or required to respond, as well as a brief abstract: Primary: Not-for-profit institutions, Business or other for-profit. The INS and the United States and Information Agency (USIA) are initiating a pilot project to test a prototype of a reengineered Foreign Student and School Program as mandated under Subtitle D, Section 641 of the Illegal Immigration Reform and Immigrant Responsibility Act of 1996. The pilot effort will test an administrative process to use a computer-supported notification and reporting process from schools to the INS regarding foreign students and exchange visitors through the duration of their status in the United States. (5) An estimate of the total number of respondents and the amount of time estimated for an average respondent to respond: 50 respondents at 60 hours per response. (6) An estimate of the total public burden (in hours) associated with the collection: 3,000 annual burden hours.
